Laura teaches writing at the graduate and undergraduate levels. A working novelist, she leads the graduate module on the history and theory of the novel, teaches creative and professional writing, and supervises independent study projects.

Laura's fiction includes themes of science, self-invention, and free will versus genetic destiny. Her first novel 'In the Tenth House' (Crown, Random House, 2007) explored the connections between spiritualism and early psychoanalysis. Her novel in progress concerns art, archaeology, and antiquities fraud. Other articles and reviews reflect her interests in energy and environmental technologies, gender, and contemporary publishing. She serves on the steering groups of a number of literature projects, including Cambridge Wordfest.

She would welcome research students interested in:

  • Science in contemporary literary fiction
  • History and theory of the novel
  • Pedagogy in creative writing
