Sport and Exercise Sciences

The Sport and Exercise Sciences programme at Anglia Ruskin University is a specialised area dedicated to the improvement of human performance and the promotion of the healthy lifestyle. We aim to apply scientific knowledge and understanding to improve performance and general health and fitness.

Our undergraduates all have a keen interest in sport and health issues, and go on to work in a range of careers in the sport and health industries, in teaching or with the National Health Service. It's also possible to study for a higher degree after graduation or to progress into areas such as physiotherapy and sports psychology. In the past our graduates have even gone into broadcasting.

Our courses

Our degrees can be studied full- or part-time in Cambridge.

Sports Science BSc (Hons)
Choose this option if you're interested in the science of sport and human performance, particularly at elite level. This degree is the most scientific route and will train you in all the scientific and human testing skills needed by the sports scientist.

Sports Coaching and Physical Education BSc (Hons)
A good choice if you wish to become a degree qualified scientific coach. This course will give you a scientific understanding of the coaching process and prepare you to work with teams at all levels. You can progress into the teaching of Physical Education after graduation by taking a further year of study on a postgraduate certificate of education programme (PGCE).

We also offer extended four-year degree options for both these courses, if you don't have the qualifications for direct entry at Level 4.

Sports Coaching (European Judo Union) BSc (Hons)
We're the sole provider of the European Judo Union Level 4 performance coach award and Level 5 high performance coach award. These are the highest level of judo coaching in Europe and access to this course is limited to experienced judo coaches and players who have competed internationally. Anglia Ruskin has a large and growing judo program; for more information see www.anglia.ac.uk/judo.
