The Role of the Admissions Office

The Admissions Office is responsible for admissions to full-time, part-time, postgraduate (taught and research) and undergraduate courses for UK and EU applicants. Our team of Admissions Officers and Administrators work closely together and follow standardised procedures and practices.

Our Admissions Officers have responsibility for individual courses as well as acting as designated Faculty contacts. They provide a link between you and your Faculty during the application process, providing information on qualifications and entry requirements. They check application forms and make and confirm offers, as well as sending you your joining information.

Admissions Administrators support the process by dealing with enquiries and personal callers, setting up applicant records, setting up interview dates, sending letters and requesting any outstanding documentation required to process your application.

We also deal with complex entry processes such as short-listing, interviews, occupational health checks, criminal records bureau disclosures, references, verification of qualifications and bursary eligibility requirements.

All courses have specific entry requirements and offers to full-time undergraduate courses are usually based on the UCAS tariff points system. For most courses, Admissions Officers have delegated responsibility to make decisions based on entry criteria provided by Faculty academic staff. For other courses, particularly the professional courses such as Nursing, Teaching, Social Work and Midwifery, interviewing is an integral part of the admissions process and all applications are considered for short-listing.

Admissions staff develop a wealth of knowledge and expertise in relation to educational qualifications, entry requirements and UCAS and GTTR processes. Admissions staff liaise closely with Faculty staff and develop strong working relationships, in particular with Admissions Tutors. They ensure that your application is dealt with equitably and that all appropriate processes are carried out. We have well-established procedures for dealing with such issues as; referral to student support for applicants declaring a learning support need or mobility requirement, Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL), or declared criminal convictions.
