Pre-sessional English Course

The pre-sessional English programme provided by the Language Service Unit (LSU) is an intensive course that has been designed to improve your English skills before you start your academic life at Anglia Ruskin. We offer a wide-range of programmes that range from 3-24 weeks depending on your level of English.

The course is full-time and you will study 21 hours per week. Throughout the course you will attend classes on writing, reading, listening and speaking skills. The course will also focus on key academic skills including research methods, note-taking, seminar skills, presentation skills, and academic vocabulary.

At the end of the course you will take our English Language Provision Test (ELPT) and you should not need to re-take your IELTS.

Russian student

English for University Studies

The English for University Studies (EUS) is a general English language course that includes academic skills to prepare non-English speakers for their first step into academic life in the UK.

The course is full-time and you will study 21 hours per week. It includes classes on grammar and vocabulary, reading, listening, speaking, fluency and writing skills. It also includes lectures on life in the UK, study skills and preparation for taking an IELTS.

At the end of the course you will take an IELTS test. If you require further English to progress onto your academic course at Anglia Ruskin, you will be able to apply for a Pre-sessional course (above).

English Language and Culture: Summer Course

Our English summer programme is a great opportunity for anyone who wants to take an educational holiday and experience life in a UK university. The course includes 12 hours of language and cultural classes as well as a number of day trips to popular tourist destinations. Previous trips have included visits to London, Warwick and Stratford-upon-Avon. You will also have some free time to explore the beautiful and historic city of Cambridge.

The course includes campus accommodation and a free airport pick-up.

Language courses for Anglia Ruskin University students


Academic and Professional Skills support modules
If English is not your first language you are able (or we may advise you) to take one of these English language modules to support you during your studies. You can take this as a 15-credit module each year so your language support is available at no extra cost to you, and your language learning counts towards your final degree.

Anglia Language Programme (ALP)
The Anglia Language Programme offers all Anglia Ruskin University students the opportunity to study a foreign language providing it is listed among the designated modules for their course.
